After the stress of the last several days, my trip to the Northeast couldn't have come at a better time. Originally planned as a retreat to Cape Cod, changes in our hostess' life meant changes to the original plan. I'm fortunate to have ties to the area, so I still decided to fly out. I am staying with my parents in Plymouth - not quite the Cape, but in many ways, just as relaxing, beautiful and peaceful.
I hadn't taken the camera out for several days - I was simply too sad to capture anything around me. But this morning I decided I needed get out and take pictures. I didn't need to go very far - my parents have the most gorgeous garden in their back yard.
I'm glad I did - they lifted my spirits and reminded me of the June's growing up here, with the rhododendrons blooming, marking the end of spring and the beginning of summer.
I gazed upon the glorious sky
And the green mountains round,
And thought that when I came to lie
At rest within the ground,
'Twere pleasant, that in flowery June
When brooks send up a cheerful tune,
And groves a joyous sound,
The sexton's hand, my grave to make,
The rich, green mountain-turf should break.
- William Cullen Bryant, June
Tomorrow, I'm making my way into Boston and Cambridge - to visit the city and the old Alma Mater. I hear there's a small graduation going on, too. Maybe I'll get to crash it.
Hi Shirley, Such amazing photo's! I so much love the first one that looks like azalea's? perhaps they could be rhododendrons too. What do I know? lol
ReplyDeleteI happened on your other site and knew the minute I saw the Mel's Diner sign that you had to be in Ft. Myer's Florida, my old stomping grounds. I lived there for two years.
Loved the para-sailing photo's too!
Beautiful and tranquil!
