In order to save some money, and to get the satisfaction of "doing it himself", Scott purchased the Haynes shop manuals for the two older vehicles we own and is able to perform some routine maintenance himself. Some of his projects included replacing the radiator on Cappy, replacing the headlights on the Corolla, rotating the tires on all 3 vehicles, changing the oil and fuel filters.
This spring's project - installing a new top on Cappy, our 18 year old convertible.
We had this done at a trim shop before, and the last time (6 years ago) it cost us over $500. Scott purchased the top on-line for $200 and is now working on the installation:
The top is all set in place on the frame and he needs to wait for the temperatures to get warmer before he can glue the pieces in place.

ReplyDeleteGood way to save! My hubby changes the brakes on my car to save some cash. I think that is the extent of our DYI auto work abilities. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed! Years and years and years ago, I took an automechanics class to help deal with Life, but never did anything as complicated as you're doing! (except for replacing the head gasket.. . but losing one of the bolts, possibly In it. . . yeah, that was not a good outcome.)
